Coming Sunrise

It's early this morning. It's dark still, with no hint of the sunrise yet on the horizon. Yet, I know that soon it will be daylight.

How do I know that? It might seem a simple question, but it contains a profound truth. I know it because I've experienced it every day of my life. I know it because I've read about the science that explains it. I know it because the historical documentation of it goes back as far as written language and beyond.

It's not just an intellectual knowledge, although I know it intellectually. It's not just an experiential knowledge, although I know it from personal experience. It's not just a historical knowledge although I know it from history. It's a foundational truth that fits all these categories and more.

How do I know Jesus is real and He died for my sins?

I know it because I've experienced the freedom. I know it intellectually from studying the Word and history. I know it because my spirit testifies to the truth. It's an even more foundational truth than the coming sun rise.

Knowing Jesus is a strange thing. You can read all about Him in the Bible and other works and still not know Him. You can talk to all kinds of people who know Him and still never have met Him. You can see His hand at work in the World and still not know Him.

Unlike the sunrise, where just knowing is enough, a relationship with Jesus requires more. It requires that you believe He is who He claimed to be and will do what He says He will do. Without that belief, it's just empty knowledge and will do you no good whatsoever.

The Pharisees and Sadducees had even met Him, but they didn't believe. Their knowledge didn't save them.

In the organized church of today's world there are congregations full of people who know of Him but don't know Him.In many ways, the church is one of the biggest mission fields there is. There are millions who think they are okay because they know about Jesus. Without that personal relationship with Him they're deceived and lost.

There are pastors and seminary professors who have a knowledge of Him but have never met Him. That knowledge of Him won't save them.

How about you? Do you know Him? Do you BELIEVE?

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Romans 10:9-10 NIV

Until next time, if you haven't already done so, may you step from knowing about Him to knowing Him.

Hallelu Yah (Praise God)

Be blessed

Kevin
