Why do I find it so
difficult to pray at this time? I feel that God is too busy to hear
our petty pleas. Is this a normal reaction?
We
appreciate your willingness to share your struggles with us
following the deadliest terrorist attack in America's history. We
can't fully understand all that you're going through right now, but
we know that Jesus understands. He loves you deeply.
You
shared with us that you're finding it hard to pray right now -- even
feeling like God is too busy to be concerned with our petty pleas.
This kind of reaction is totally understandable. In light of a
global crisis, we may feel that our personal prayer requests are
insignificant. However, God says that the hairs on our heads are
numbered (Matthew
10:30)! Nothing about us or our prayers is petty to God. He
wants us to come to Him in this tragedy -- with all of our issues,
great or small. He also desires our thankfulness and praise.
We
encourage you to be real with God about all that you are feeling
right now -- perhaps confusion, anger, and a sense of loss. Take it
to Jesus. Find hope in the promises of His Word.
The Bible tells us
in
1 Peter 5:7
to cast all of our anxiety on Him, because He cares about us -- and
He is big enough to handle it.
Jesus
wants to give you the peace that the world cannot give in the midst
of this crisis (John
14:27). He wants to give you comfort and strength for each
moment and each challenge that you face. He also wants to give you
eternal life. If you have never invited Jesus Christ to come into
your heart and life, we encourage you to make this
commitment today.
Talking
with us about your struggles is a good first step, but you'll need
to talk with mature Christians in your life. If you're a part of a
church, talk to your pastor. If you're not a part of a church,
please find one that lifts up Jesus and His Word.
We have
remembered you in prayer. Jesus will walk with you in this difficult
journey. He says that He will strengthen you and uphold you with His
own hand (Isaiah
41:10).
