Come back to Jesus
HOW DO I FIND GOD AGAIN?
Do you remember the friend you used to be so close to in your childhood or teens years? It's been so long since you’ve seen them and you are having trouble recalling what they looked like. You can still remember some of the good times but the memories are fading fast.
Then you see them again, and you look for that same closeness to reignite only to find your conversation filled with embarrassing silences. You seem to have nothing in common any more.
Many have a similar experience in their relationship with God. Once you knew God as a friend. Once you shared your thoughts in prayer with him. Once you trusted Him to lead your life. Now, while you still believe he is out there, you seem to have lost touch with him.
GOD NEVER WANDERS AWAY FROM US
The reality is that God never wanders off from us. He never loses touch with us. We lose touch with him. Any relationship that is not nurtured slowly disappears. Unlike your childhood friends, God still has everything in common with you.
He loved you so much that he took your place, died on a cross, experienced death and hell for you, then rose from the dead offering to you eternal life.
How strange that once we have experienced God’s forgiveness, love and grace we would be satisfied to live outside it. Yet many do and perhaps you are one of those people.
The Bible says that we are separated from God because of our sin. However I John 1 says: "This is the message God has given us to pass on to you: that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all."
So if we say we are His friends, but go on living in spiritual darkness and sin, we are lying ... If we say that we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves, and refusing to accept the truth. But if we confess our sins to Him, He can be depended on to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong.
If you have created a break in fellowship with your God by your sins it is up to you to return to God. Please understand, He has not gone anywhere. He is still waiting for you with outstretched arms of compassion and love.
James 5-13 says, "My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins."
He is eagerly waiting for you to return to his grace. However as I John says our response must be one of confessing our sins.
If you are longing to renew your relationship with God let me guide you in a prayer of recommitment.
Dear God,
I thank you that your love for me has never gone away. I see today that you are waiting for me to confess my sins and return to your grace.
I do today repent of the sins that have pulled me away from you.
I accept the gift of salvation and eternal life that you provided for me.
I ask that you restore my relationship with you and I commit to allowing you, not only to be my friend but also my Lord.
In the name of Jesus my Savior I pray, Amen.
