THE PULSE OR THE PURSE

It was purely a pun. In writing about exciting things
God is doing, I made the statement: Now check your
purse. I meant, Now check your pulse! The
application of the word “purse” definitely has a
different meaning than “pulse,” but the two were
confused rather humorously. I was writing about Wall
Street. Doubtless the “pulse” and the “purse” get
alternately affected. The conclusion is this: Let’s
get excited about the work of God so that our “pulse”
beats fast and our “purse” gets opened! I’ve seen
people give ‘til they got blessed! And I’ve seen
people get so blessed that they gave “cheerfully!”
You must each make up your own mind as to how much you
should give. Don’t give reluctantly or in response to
pressure. For God loves the person who gives
cheerfully (II Corinthians 9:7 NLT).
We’ve been studying about your purse and your pulse.
Now we’re going to take an in-depth study of the
worker’s purse and the worker’s pulse. Open your
Bible to Luke 9 and 10. First Christ sent forth the
twelve; then He sent out the seventy. He said, The
harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few:
pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he
would send forth labourers into his harvest (Luke.
10:2 KJV). His instructions were: Carry neither
purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: (vs. 4). And they lacked
nothing! (Read Luke. 22::35).
Then on the night of Christ’s betrayal and arrest, He
gave radically different instructions to His disciples
and to all involved in the Great Commission. But now,
He said, take your money and a traveler’s bag, and if
you don’t have a sword, sell your clothes and buy one!
For the time has come…. Prophecy is now rapidly
being fulfilled. The “Great Commission” is to be a
world-wide movement! Missions is the main task of
the Church
They’re dying, dying fast away, a thousand thousand
souls a day
In hopeless dread and gloom.
O Church of God, what will you say, if on that
dreadful judgment day
They charge you with their doom?
My pulse beats fast as I study the above statement.
