IF GOD HAD A REFRIGERATOR
by Erwin Bourne—March 11, 2002
Though God inhabits eternity and is clothed with
attributes such as no other can wear, yet He has a
personality. Moses knew God face to face (Deut.
34:10). Do we err in visualizing God as a person? Do
you want to pay Him a visit? His address is 1 Billion
Starry Sky Avenue. He has a very personal interest in
you. If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be
on the door. Missionary Jean has pictures of our
family held magnetically on the refrigerator here at
the Amazon mission base. If God had a bulletin board,
your petitions (and mine) would be listed there, for
he is faithful that promised (Hebrews 10:23). We have
a wonderful Father in heaven!
OUR EXTREMITY IS GOD’S OPPORTUNITY
Let’s examine briefly in Hebrews chapter 6 what God is
and what He is not:
I. GOD IS NOT UNJUST (v. 10). He is not unreasonable
and not unfair. No one can ever blame God for their failure. It’s
not His fault.
II. GOD IS NOT FORGETFUL (v. 10). He remembers your
work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his
people….
III. GOD IS NOT LAZY (v. 12). We do not want you to
become lazy but to imitate those who through faith and patience
inherit what has been promised ( v. 12).
IV. GOD IS NOT STINGY (V. 14 NIV). God took an oath
in his own Name saying: “I will certainly bless you richly….”
Missionary Jean has a refrigerator and a deep freeze.
These past few weeks when the squeeze has been on—when
we had money in the stateside bank but no means to
draw it out with our ATM cards here in Colombia, she
still very generously cared for the families working
for the mission. When we had no money to give, she
supplied them with groceries. As we looked to God for
the solution, they looked to us.
We wrote: WE ARE OUT OF OPTIONS. Today another option
opened up. God Does Have a Refrigerator! When we
were singing “Amazing Grace” in an empty flour barrel,
God blessed us with a great blessing!
Yours for OUTREACH AMAZON
