THANK GOD FOR OUR PROBLEMS
by Erwin Bourne

If I were to ask what is the most critical problem you
are confronted with on a daily basis, what would be
your answer? Economical frustrations? Physical
conditions? Family problems? Here in Leticia,
Colombia, I am confronted with all these by visitors
who come through the gates of the Casa Grande. Jesus
in His earthly ministry had to deal with these on a
daily basis. The Gospels tell us how He coped with
all these necessities. The Bible treats these
problems with spiritual answers. “But seek ye first
the kingdom of God, and his righteousness” (Mt. 6:33);
“Is any sick among you?” (James 5:14); “Whosoever
shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the
same is my brother, and sister, and mother” (Mt.
12:50);

GOD IS GREATER THAN ANY OF MY PROBLEMS

In the feeding of the five thousand found in Mark
6:35-44, the disciples fretted over the need, but not
Jesus. The disciples said, “This is a desolate place,
and it is getting late. Send the crowds away….”
Again they said, “It would take a small fortune to
feed this crowd” (v. 37 NLT). Jesus thanked God for
the problem.. When the five loaves of bread and two
fish were brought to Him, “He looked up toward heaven,
and asked God’s blessing on the food.” We could
grumble saying, “What are these amongst so many?”
“How far would 200 pennies worth go to meet all my
needs?” Rather, “Let us come before his presence
with thanksgiving” (Psalm 95:2).

God honors radical, risk-taking faith. In one of my
most desperate hours in Bogota, Colombia, God quieted
my anxiety and answered prayer on the basis of
Philippians 4:6.7—Don’t worry about anything; instead,
pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and
thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you
will experience God’s peace, which is far more
wonderful than the human mind can understand. His
peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in
Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6. 7 NLT).
I love you all. Let’s
pray for one another.
