My thanks go out to all of you who offered prayers and sent me words of
encouragement about the surgery I was scheduled for yesterday.
This morning's Gleanings From The Word is late because yesterday didn't
go as planned. That's both good news and bad news. I spent the night at the
hospital but it had nothing to do with my eye surgery.
As you know from yesterday's Gleanings, I was scheduled for some minor
surgery near my eye yesterday. My one eyelid droops and blocks part of my
vision when I'm tired. It was to be a simple nip and tuck eyelid lift.
I hopped onto a bus by my front door, made a couple of transfers and a
little more than an hour later I was at the ophthalmologist’s office. After
meeting with me, he determined that the problem was more from my eyebrow
drooping than the lid. That surgery requires a plastic surgeon and several
months of waiting to get the initial consult.
I confess I didn't leave his office feeling cheerful and charitable.
With timing delays the ride home took an hour and a half, the duration of
which I threw myself a pity party.
When I got home, there was a message on the machine from the sleep
disorder clinic. I'm on their waiting list for an assessment but there are
1400 people ahead of me and only six beds. They had a cancellation and a spot
open if I was free to take it. Of course I jumped at the chance.
Once again, I was reminded that it is God who is in control and not me.
I had some repenting to do about my attitude and my self imposed pity party.
If I had my way and the surgery had been done, I would have been
waiting much longer for my sleep assessment because I wouldn't have been able
to undergo the sleep tests post surgery. I'll still have to wait a month to
get the results from the sleep clinic and several months to see the next
surgeon, but it beats two years or more on the waiting list.
God is in control. That's a good thing because He knows our true needs
and his timing is perfect. All we need do is trust Him.
