Gleanings From The Word
Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary Life
Out On A Ledge
I watched the newscast in amazement. The man was stranded on the ledge
of a virtually destroyed building, high above the ground. I missed the early
part of the newscast, but it looked like an explosion of some kind had hit
the building. His rescuer was close by, urging him to just reach out and take
his hand.
The man clung to the wall and ignored the pleas of his rescuer. All he
needed to do was move his hands a few inches in the direction of the other
man and he would be safe. In his terror the stranded man couldn't or wouldn't
comply. The ledge collapsed and he fell several stories to his death. His
rescue were there for the taking, but he chose not to take it.
We're often like the trapped man. We're trapped by bitterness, anger,
resentfulness, un forgiveness and habitual sin. We blame everyone around us
for the things that are going wrong, even God.
Yet He stands there with His hands out waiting to rescue us. All we
have to do is give it over to Him and be set free. We don't though; we hang
on refusing to let our rescuer help us.
Even once we've accepted His gift of forgiveness and reconciliation, we
hold onto the wall. We know we're safely in His hands but we fight against
Him. We know what He tells us to do and we ignore it. We walk away from His
rescuing hand once He's had a grasp on us and allow old patterns to sink back
in. We seem to have a desperate need to not be rescued, to prove we're in
control, even if it means falling over the ledge.
There is freedom and deliverance available to us in God but we must
choose to accept it. He won't force Himself on us.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where
the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
2 Corinthians 3:17 ESV
And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah
was given to him. He [Jesus] unrolled the scroll and found the place where
it was written, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed
me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to
the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those
who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
Luke 4:17-19 ESV
You're safely in His hands once you've accepted Him, will you trust Him
to rescue you?
Until next time let Him free you from all that oppresses you.
Be blessed.
Hallelu Yah (Praise God)!

There is someone out there who will always be at your side, who will
never leave you, never abandon you and who has no agenda but to love you.
Will you let Him into your life?
