Palm
Pilots
It seems everywhere I go someone
has one of those hand held, personal,
electronic organizers. You know the
ones, Palm Pilot is the most common
brand as far as I can tell, so much so
that it seems to have become almost a
generic name for them.
I see people pull them out in
meetings and use a little stick to
enter their data. I'm woefully
ignorant, I don't know if they are
writing something on the screen or
pushing tiny buttons or both.
Like cell phones, it seems that
everyone "just has to have" one. Day
timers, computing functions, contact
lists and even Bible software on your
organizers are quite common.
I understand some changes are
underway so that your personal
organizer will integrate internet
access and your cell phone so that you
can do all those things on one
machine. Some have gone to very small
organizers that you update from your
computer and keep on your key chain.
I confess to being a bit of a
dinosaur. I keep my day timer by hand
on a big wall calendar. I would never
be able to read the text on a key
chain sized unit. Sometimes I can't
even find my keys, I don't know how I
could keep track of an organizer that
small. I don't have a cell phone or a
pager. It was only last year that I
moved from a desktop computer to a
notebook.
There's nothing inherently wrong
with those things. I just remember
that personal computers were going to
make life easier, give us more free
time and reduce paper consumption. In
my opinion, they didn't deliver on any
of those things, so I'm skeptical that
other devices will make good on their
claims. I still enjoy having a
computer, but it doesn't make my life
simpler, free up more time or reduce
my paper consumption.
My palm pilot is old fashioned. If
I need to remember something and don't
have paper handy, I write it on my
hand. Crude perhaps, but generally
effective.
I'm not alone in doing it that way.
But Zion said, "The LORD has
forsaken me, the Lord has forgotten
me."
"Can a mother forget the baby at
her breast and have no compassion on
the child she has borne? Though she
may forget, I will not forget you!
See, I have engraved you on the
palms of my hands; your walls are
ever before me. Isaiah 49:14-16
NIV
God has inscribed our names on the
palm of His hands, never to be
forgotten, never to be forsaken. No
matter what we face, even if we don't
"feel" His presence, He is with us.
God's Palm Pilot never crashes. It
never needs recharging. It never gets
misplaced. It's always on and always
set at the right function.
Until next time, when you see
someone using one of those hand held
organizers may you think of God's
palms and rejoice that He loves you
that much.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah (Praise God)!
