PEACE AND EDIFICATION

ROMANS 15:1-3
| 1We who are strong ought to
bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. 2Each
of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. 3For
even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: "The insults of
those who insult you have fallen on me." ================================================================== What do others want to see in a man who claims to be a Christian? Chances are they want to see a man who reflects the life of Jesus Christ. Paul's admonition for us in this passage is that we must treat Christian brothers of all backgrounds with respect, not criticism. The apostle acknowledges that people have different beliefs in regard to "disputable matters" of the Christian faith (14:1). He then summarizes what should be the godly man's attitude in this regard: "Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification" (14:19).
