"The Prayer Of A Soldier's Son"

The little boy did not understand why Daddy went away

He only knew he missed him and every night he'd pray

God, Please bring my Daddy back, I need him here with me

To watch me grow into the man that I will someday be

Mommy tried to tell me why Daddy went away

She said to protect his family, he had to go away

But before he left, he gave me a teddy bear to remind me of his love

He told me that You loved me and always pray to God above

 So here I am again, Jesus, just like the night before

Asking You to watch over my Daddy when he goes to war

Grandma says You can help and that You answer prayer

She said You died on a wooden cross to show us that You care

 I see Mommy crying and I don't know what to do

So while I pray for Daddy, I'll pray for Mommy too

I just don't understand, so please help me to see

Why Daddy can't be with us that way he used to be

I'm trying to be strong, so Mommy doesn't know

That every night I go to bed, I cry on my pillow

My little heart is breaking, please help me not to be sad

I'm praying You'll send an angel to protect and keep my Dad

I need his big strong hands to guide me through the way

To teach me how to work, to teach me how to play

I need his hugs and kisses, that always makes me grin

Please guide my Daddy, Jesus, Keep him from all sin

 I'm not giving up on Daddy because I love him so

And he's always in my heart no matter where I go

Although I love my Mommy, I need my Daddy too

I pray You'll bring him home and make our family new

 Lord, most of all show Daddy how much You love and care

And so the little boy said "Amen" as he held his teddy bear

His prayer was heard from heaven, for who could help, but hear

 And as the child fell asleep, on his cheek fell an angel tear....
