TEMPTATION CALLING

1 CORINTHIANS 6:12-20

12 All things are lawful for me; but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful for me; but I will not be brought under the power of any.
13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall bring to nought both it and them. But the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body:
14 and God both raised the Lord, and will raise up as through his power.
15 Know ye not that your bodies are members of Christ? shall I then take away the members of Christ, and make them members of a harlot? God forbid.
16 Or know ye not that he that is joined to a harlot is one body? for, The twain, saith he, shall become one flesh.
17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
19 Or know ye not that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which ye have from God? and ye are not your own;
20 for ye were bought with a price: glorify God therefore in your body.

When a television reporter once asked a group of Christian men about the difficulties of managing their lives, they identified moral purity as the number one challenge.  Most men would probably respond as these men did, especially in our modern era when we're bombarded by so much sexual stimulation.  Paul's words to the believers in Corinth are as timely today as in any other era in the church's history.

     Paul outlines the first step in maintaining moral purity: "Flee from sexual immorality" (v. 18). We're all aware of situations that fuel our lust.  Paul's word picture here is of an individual literally running away from such a situation.  Take Paul's advice to heart:  Identify those specific situations where you're sexually tempted, and chart out a game plan that will enable you to avoid temptation.  Once you've got it, share the plan with a close friend or with your men's group.  Keep reminding each other to send Jesus to the door when temptation knocks.

     All Christian men should make a daily, conscious decision to turn from all forms of sexual immorality.  Why?  See verses 19-20 for Paul's summary.  We've been called to live a life that's compatible with our new identity in Jesus Christ, and to choose to avoid such sin out of gratitude for what he's done for us.
