Gleanings From The Word

Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary Life

Transformation

Tonight (Friday) Kathy and I are participating in a multi- church/cross denominational outreach to show the Jesus Film For Children to the grade five/six students of our community. Please take a moment and pray that God would bring those He has called, that their hearts would be open to hearing and accepting the gospel and that the plans of the enemy will be thwarted. Thank you.

As I walked around the lake yesterday, I noticed more and more signs of spring. Most of the snow is gone and the lake ice is getting pretty rotten.

Yesterday I saw the first Richardson's ground squirrel (also known as a gopher or a prairie pooch) of the year. It looked like he had just opened up his tunnel for the year and was taking a very timid look outside.

In the odd spot the grass has begun to turn ever so slightly green. Some of the plants sticking up through the lake ice have begun to turn green as well. The pussy willows have been out in places for more than a week now. Every day there is a new species of bird life showing up from down south.

I know that spring is something that happens every year around this time but it never ceases to amaze me. It never ceases to fill me with joy.

As I took some quiet time yesterday afternoon, I was reading through the book of Ezekiel. I came across a prophecy that I have read many times, but for some reason not paid a lot of attention to. It made the excitement of spring pale. I've added a few words enclosed in [ ] to help you see the picture

The man brought me back to the entrance of the temple, and I saw water coming out from under the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water [Gihon Spring?] was coming down from under the south side of the temple, south of the altar. He then brought me out through the north gate and led me around the outside to the outer gate facing east, and the water was flowing from the south side. As the man went eastward with a measuring line in his hand, he measured off a thousand cubits and then led me through water that was ankle-deep. He measured off another thousand cubits and led me through water that was knee-deep. He measured off another thousand and led me through water that was up to the waist. He measured off another thousand, but now it was a river that I could not cross, because the water had risen and was deep enough to swim in--a river that no one could cross. He asked me, "Son of man, do you see this?" Then he led me back to the bank of the river [JJordan]. When I arrived there, I saw a great number of trees on each side of the river. He said to me, "This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, where it enters the [Dead] Sea. When it empties into the Sea, the water there becomes fresh. Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live. Fishermen will stand along the shore; from En Gedi to En Eglaim there will be places for spreading nets. The fish will be of many kinds--like the fish of the Great Sea [Mediterranean]. But the swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they will be left for salt. Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing." Ezekiel 47:1-12! NIV

God will transform the Dead Sea, the saltiest, most lifeless body of water on the face on the earth into fresh water and fill it with fish. He will take a body of water that nothing grows around and surround it with lush vegetation.

Jewish rabbinical tradition holds that the water that comes from the Gihon Spring is the site of one of the four rivers that marked the Garden of Eden. In the appointed time, it will flow like the days of old bringing life to the land.

I don't know how He will accomplish it, but God has never failed to deliver on a promise and never will.

The miracle of the Dead Sea is mirrored in our lives. When we accept Jesus, He takes our dead spirits and brings them to life. What was once barren wasteland becomes beautiful. What was once a stronghold of opposition to God becomes the very place He dwells.

The miracle of spring and the miraculous healing of the Dead Sea that is to come pale in comparison to the miracle He has performed in our hearts.

Until next time, rejoice in the life He has freely given to you. It cost you nothing, but He paid for it with His very life.

Be blessed.

Hallelu Yah (Praise God)!

Kevin
