It was while learning catechism
My experience with God began in a small German village when I was 8 years old . . . like a soft tune in my heart. It was while learning catechism and taking First Communion, as was my family's custom, I began to learn to love God.
After coming to America in 1960, leaving behind my brother and two sisters, I settled in Philadelphia, PA as a live-in housekeeper. Speaking very little English, I learned from watching "Father Knows Best" and "My Three Sons" on TV. They seemed to use plain language.
At the age of 32 I met and married a man who could not tell the truth and the marriage ended 7 or 8 years later. I was left with a wounded heart and shattered trust, but I also had to raise our little girl alone. Not having any family to help me through this sad time, I was always aware of God's help.
A friend gave me a little booklet which I read faithfully everyday entitled, "The Daily Word." This is when the first notes of my ballad with God really began. Although my family faithfully attended church, they never read a Bible so I did not think to either.
I met and married a man who loved God with all his heart. He was looking for a church home when a friend led us to a Bible believing church. This was my first experience reading a Bible.
As I faithfully read the Bible, my knowledge grows and my life is changed. Jesus is real to me and now I have a personal relationship with Him.
When I have so much to do it overwhelms me, I call on Jesus for help. God so orchestrated my work duties once that I was done by early afternoon. He is so personal in my life that I knew He was telling me to attend Sunday School. I obeyed and received His blessings. Facing surgery, I had great peace. He was right beside me. The reason for my peace is, I gave it to God, let go, and left it with Him. Only when one conquers doubt and learns to trust can one do this.
